Roger W. Smith
The purest modern expression of the Daniels Method: one workshop, raw materials, individual watchmakers and fifteen to twenty watches a year.
Verification note
Official workshop material confirms design, manufacture and hand assembly on the Isle of Man, with only specialist components sourced externally.
The record
Roger W. Smith trained under George Daniels and has spent his career advancing the hand-built approach Daniels established on the Isle of Man.
The workshop says every watch is designed, manufactured and built there. All but specialist items such as jewels, balance springs, crystals, seals and straps are made in-house from raw materials.
This is not a realistic purchase for most readers. It is still the necessary benchmark: the fullest answer to what modern British watch manufacture can mean.
